What can I do ?
We are always looking for volunteers to help out with local environmental projects, and yes this may mean getting your hands dirty, being active and getting outside which has great social and physical health benefits.
But we are also on the look out for people with other diverse skills such as administration, marketing, media, communications, photography, accounting, botany, seed collection, volunteer liaison and much more which helps contribute to the whole system which supports grass roots environmental volunteerism, and ultimately the protection and restoration of our local environment.

Where can I volunteer ?
Throughout the Shoalhaven local government area there are many voluntary ‘care’ groups working collectively to repair and preserve the unique Shoalhaven environment. Within that group, there are a number of Landcare groups working on predominantly privately owned land.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer then contact us on our Contact Us webpage.

What’s the difference between Landcare and Bushcare ?
When it comes to the on-ground work, there is very little difference between Landcare and Bushcare.
They are both working toward environmental restoration and dealing with similar environmental issues in their local area.
The difference really is that Bushcare groups work on Council owned or managed land and are supported by Shoalhaven Councils Bushcare program, whereas Landcare groups work on private land and are not supported by Council.

No Landcare Group in my area ?
If there is not a Landcare group nearby or if you have specific issues that require the formation of a new group, here are a few simple steps to get started:
- Talk to your neighbours, friends or surrounding property owners about your ideas
- Work through Shoalhaven Landcare for support and advice
- Contact other Landcare groups to get advice on how they got started
- Hold a public meeting to let others in the community know of your plans
- In conjunction with Shoalhaven Landcare draw up a plan of action to guide your group into the future
